The diverse Bay Area citizens have witnessed movements of great proportion over time. This includes the ongoing progression of the growing LGBT community. The LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender) community is universal, but as students living in the Bay Area (San Jose, San Francisco, etc.) of California, we have grown up with this community being in our immediate environment. One could assume that because the Bay Area is so diverse that we would welcome people of all backgrounds with open arms, but even we fall short in accomplishing a hate-free lifestyle. As five college students of this wondrous west coast we want to bring the hate to a halt, but with your help. The best way to understand the LGBT community is to explore the people within it that make up such a powerful part of mankind. We set out to learn the stories of everyday people, like you and I. However, their stories have in return, given us a new perspective on what it means to struggle in order to be true to who you are. We want to hear YOUR stories, obstacles, worries, and victories in fighting for the respect and understanding of your lifestyle. Whether you call yourself: straight, queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, a drag queen, transgender, or a transvestite. Together we can bring this community one step closer to being not just a closet case, but the most talked about movement of our time. It’s time to end the hate.
